Model, get a piece of paper and scale a model of the bedroom so that you can see what furniture you want and where you want to keep it. You can decide what size of bed you are going to have and how much room you have for furniture. This will save time rearranging furniture to see how you want the room decorated and will help you to come up with ideas of what will fit in your teenager is bedroom as well.
If you are feeling creative, you can paint a mural on one of the walls. The mural does not have to look like a fine art painting, a simplified picture of a castle with banners flying would go a long way to give the room a magical feeling. Take a look at your childs coloring or story books for pictures you could use. If painting is not your thing, you may be able to find a wallpaper mural or border with a princess theme.
Everyone knows that a princess lives in luxury, so that is the look you need to go for, but hopefully not at a luxurious price! If you can sew, look for fabrics like velvet, satin, lace, and eyelet in your childs favorite colors. You can use these fabrics to make extra full curtains as well as pillows. If you do not sew, look for pre-made accessories in coordinating colors. Make sure to have lots of pillows in various fabrics, sizes and colors. Great princess curtains are thick and full, with lots of extra fabric to work with.
If you have a daughter, you can transform the room in a way that she will feel like a princess. She may be over cartoon characters like Cinderella and Snow White, but she still want to feel like a princess. Paint the room with light colors like cream, pale green and pale pink. For her curtains and bed, use flower designs. This will add a feminine look and at the same time, a princess-like feeling. Replace the traditional fan with a chandelier. It will make the room elegant. Also, add more pillows.
