The first item of bedroom furniture to consider is without doubt the bed. It is the bed that should set the precedent for everything else you will buy for the room. The size of your bedroom will be your primary guide as to what size of bed you will buy. Certainly a king-size bed will not be apt for a compact room. Beds with large headboards always look elegant. There are also some of us who prefer sleeping not too far off the floor and if you are one of them you can opt for a platform bed.
Look for pieces with character. This will really help your furniture stand out. It is a way to decorate with neutral colors but your pieces will still get noticed. For instance, if you are going with a country look then you can find pieces with beadboard accents. Your furniture should bring in the overall theme because most bedrooms are just a plain box. This is a way to add different textures and ideas into your space without doing a lot of work.
It is an area where you can place your bedside lamp and it is also a place where you can put your own personal items. Be careful when choosing this type of bedroom furniture to make sure that it does not compromise the floor space in the room. If you do not have the biggest bedroom, the night stands and bed should not compromise how you get around the room. Ensure if you have built-in cupboards down one side of the room, you can reach them and open them with ease.
In this case, you can bring in upholstered pieces. If you have an entire upholstered headboard this will give a high end look to your space and also add softness. You can also spend a little bit more money on the knobs and drawer pulls because this works really what will get noticed on a plain piece. This can work in with your overall theme but it does not have to be too cutesy. For instance, for a vintage look then you can go with glass knobs that will make any piece look like an antique.
